SATURDAY'S City and Suburban A-grade match between Cardiff Panthers and Nelson Bay took little more than half an hour to complete, so the two teams decided to fill in the afternoon with a game of Twenty20.
Nelson Bay were bundled out for 17 in the competition match, and Cardiff cruised to victory by 10 wickets in 10 balls. The social Twenty20 game was hastily arranged after players from the Bay figured it was a long way to travel to No.2 Sportsground for a 35-minute match.Cardiff cracked "about 140-odd" in their innings and Nelson Bay were all out for 70, but they did get a helping hand in the second game.Reduced to 10 men because one of their players left after the proper game was over, Nelson Bay recruited one of the umpires, and he batted 11 for the Bay boys.Rumours are rife the Cardiff players, including skipper Jason Holt, bowled very slowly when the umpire strode to the crease and even clapped when he hit a four. ? NBA boss David Stern has defended his decision to banish Tim Hardaway from the 2007 All-Star Game festivities and says he hopes to speak to the former player soon about his anti-gay comments. NBA commissioner Stern removed the ex-Miami Heat star from any league-related appearances connected with All-Star weekend in Las Vegas after the 13-year NBA veteran launched into an anti-gay tirade recently on a Miami radio station. "You know I hate gay people, so I let it be known," Hardaway said, before later apologising.
